- INTRODUCTION:
- This is a MENU driven program that MANAGES a Golf League.
- This League may be a 9 hole or 18 hole League played on a standard
- Golf Course or on a PAR 3 or an Executive type course.
-
- The system handles from four to twelve teams. Twelve teams
- are limited to 4 players per/team. Six teams may contain up to 9
- players per/team. Four teams may contain up to 10 players
- per/team. These limitations are based on the printing routines
- for 8.5 by 11 paper.
-
- The players on each team are ranked in handicap order.
-
- The system allows inputs for LOW GROSS, LOW NET, Substitutes
- (SUB), Players that did not play (DNP), Players who the SUB
- COORDINATOR could not find a SUB for (NSA), all to be entered from
- a MENU of AUXILIARY INPUTS. The program consists of two files
- GOLFMGS3.EXE and a Data file called GOLFDAT.
-
- The Print Routine will print on any printer that is EPSON
- COMPATIBLE. If you have a FAX MODEM, any of the many PRINTER
- REDIRECT Programs that are available as SHAREWARE, can be used to
- redirect the output to a disk file. This file may then be FAX'D to
- any location.

-
- To initialize the Program, various parameters must be
- entered, as follows.
-
- ENTER THE LEAGUE NAME
- ENTER DAY OF LEAGUE
- ENTER THE NUMBER OF TEAMS
- ENTER THE TEAM SIZE
- ENTER LEAGUE SIZE 18 OR 9 HOLES
- ENTER COURSE PAR FOR LEAGUE SIZE 18 OR 9 HOLES
- ENTER LEAGUE PRESIDENT AND PHONE NO.
- ENTER SUB COORDINATOR AND PHONE NO.

- save the DATA. After returning to the MAIN MENU use OPTION
- 4), ADD A NEW PLAYER TO THE LIST, to add additional players.
- The number of scores entered can be up to 20, however it is
- best to enter only four scores equal to what the Player says
- that he normally shoots for a 9 or 18 hole round. This allows
- for a rapid adjustment to his true handicap. (This will be
- addressed later under New Year of a League.)
-
-
-
-
-
- OBSERVE THE MENU ITEMS ON THE SCREEN CAREFULLY
- 1) USE MENU ITEM #5 TO ADD SCORE AND POINTS TO EACH PLAYER. I
- GENERALLY ENTER THE SUBS FIRST BEFORE I ENTER THE SCORES FOR THE
- PLAYERS WHO PLAYED ON EACH TEAM. IT IS ONLY NECESSARY TO ENTER
- ENOUGH LETTERS OF THE PLAYER'S NAME TO IDENTIFY HIM EXP. SM FOR

-
- 4) USE MENU ITEM #7 TO VIEW EACH TEAM TO MAKE SURE IT LOOKS THE
- SAME AS THE MARKED UP SHEET THAT YOU ARE USING TO INPUT
- INFORMATION, SUBS, DNP'S, POINTS PER PLAYER. THEN PRESS U TO
- UPDATE THAT TEAM'S POINTS. THEN MOVE TO THE NEXT TEAM.
-
- 5) USE MENU ITEM P) PRINTING ROUTINES (MAKE SURE PRINTER IS ON)
- FOLLOW THE PROMPTS ON THE SCREEN CAREFULLY.
-
- 6) IF PRINTING IS OK, USE MENU ITEM X) EXIT ROUTINE TO FIRST SAVE
- DATA TO DISK AND THEN EXIT THE PROGRAM.

- GENERAL NOTES.
-
- IF YOU GET INTO A SITUATION THAT YOU CAN'T SEEM TO RECOVER FROM
- YOU MAY EXIT THE PROGRAM WITHOUT SAVING THE DATA AND THEN RESTART
- THE PROGRAM.
- YOU MAY EXPERIMENT WITH ANY FEATURE OF THE PROGRAM AS LONG AS
- YOU DO NOT SAVE THE DATA. YOU MAY COPY THE GOLFDAT FILE TO A NEW
- NAME, (EXP.) GOLFDAT1, SO THAT IF YOU CREATE YOUR OWN DATA AND
- SAVE IT, IT WILL OVERWRITE GOLFDAT.
-
- STARTING A NEW YEAR ABOUT HANDICAPS.
- Most Twileague or Industrial Leagues have a high turnover of
- players from year to year. Many players do not have official USGA
- Handicaps. New players may estimate their Handicaps HIGH or LOW,
- (SANDBAGGERS will be HIGH) and will win their matches until the
- Handicap system catches up with them. Therefore entering only four
- scores initially, allows for a rapid adjustment of their
- Handicaps.
- Returning players (rusty) who have scores carried over from
- last year would be at a disadvantage as their handicaps would not
- go up if they have a bad round in the early part of the year,
- (STANDARD IS BEST TEN OUT OF LAST TWENTY), he would have to have
- many bad rounds before his Handicap would go up and he would not
- be competitive with a New Player. Therefore it is fair to cut
- back their scores to four so that the returning Players can
- compete. The program contains TWO HANDICAP METHODS, BEST 10 OUT
- OF THE LAST 13 SCORES OR BEST TEN OUT OF THE LAST 20 SCORES. If
- you start the year with only FOUR scores for each player,
- both new and returning, then the program will use FOUR then FIVE
- then SIX etc. until the ELEVENTH score is entered and then will
- use the best TEN. If a player has a bad round after TEN scores are
- in the system, his handicap will not go up because the system is
- using only the best TEN. If there are THIRTEEN scores in the
- system, then the best ten might change depending on the score
- entered and the one that drops of the end, the one that becomes
- the FOURTEENTH. The same would apply if you use the Best TEN of
- the last TWENTY but would be delayed until TWENTY TWO were
- entered.
- The handicaps are computed as follows. 96% of the AVERAGE of
- the BEST TEN minus the course PAR.
-
- EXAMPLE: Total of BEST TEN = 510 Course PAR = 36
- ((510/10)*.96)-36= HANDICAP 13 The current USGA Handicaps
- are based on SLOPE and COURSE RATING So that a golfer may play a
- different COURSE and they can adjust his handicap to that COURSE.
- This adds undo complication to a TWILEAGUE that is normally played
- at the same course for the entire season.
-
- To change the HANDICAP METHOD use option C) on the SET-UP
- UTILTIES MENU.
- MARKING SCORE CARDS
- The program formerly contained a feature to prevent
- excessively HIGH SCORES from being submitted, this feature has
- been removed. In MATCH PLAY a player who is three up with two
- holes to go, could blow the last two holes and prevent his
- handicap from going down and still win the match. Local LEAGUE
- RULES should be established to determine how many strokes
- over PAR can be entered on each hole.
